This will be my third year Unravelling the Year Ahead. This 33-page booklet will take me a good weekend alone with a comfy chair… colored pencils and pens… incense… a deck of oracle or tarot cards… and hopefully–a lot of sunshine. As I type this, I’m printing it out this freebie that Susannah Conway offers to us from her heart every year to help us go through the year behind us and look at it–unpack it, process it, and know what we need to keep as much as what to leave behind. She then takes us through the process of using all of that to build the year ahead. Together, the packet and me will build a vision of what lies ahead–what our heart wants.
Part of the process is finding a guiding word for the year and Susannah has a free, 5-day e-mail course to facilitate that for you.
I am filled with so much gratitude to Susannah for offering these things to us with nothing asked in return. I’m clearly on the mailing list and I don’t recall seeing e-mails other than those related to the Find Your Word course.
But what she offers is so important. We are so rushed in this day and age. We are so focused on the next thing we need to get done and we sacrifice so much in the busyness of it all. Many of us barely lift our head to make longer term financial and personal goals… creating focus and vision are often regarded as laughable luxuries meant for “someone else”.
No.
So here is the first challenge as we enter into a new year… are you ready? Because the challenge is making a decision that you matter. I have to take this challenge, too. IT’S. HARD. It’s hard to be a mom and a wife plus whatever else we are as the world defines us and obligates us. It’s hard to decide that we come first and the rest can wait–even children and spouses. It’s hard to take a breath and take pause and look at the chaos that surrounds us–that feeling that WE DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS–and really buy into the idea that taking the time to do this will create more time.
That is not our culture.
But it IS our reality.
We are far, far, FAR more productive, connected, loving, peaceful people when we align who we are with what we do. Are you afraid that too many things on the outside will have to change to accommodate who you are inside? Don’t be afraid. We are not bulls in a china shop. Life doesn’t have to change all in one swoop.
Life changes in the thousands of little things we do every day. What we need to do right now is give those thousands of little decisions–those millions of moments–purpose and direction.
You drive this boat, mama. You are at the helm. And that means you need to take whatever time you need to know your path so that you know how to steer. It’s scary because it’s new and we don’t know how it will be received. But we have each other for support.
Come take my hand and we will be strong together. This is the year. <3
